Lara and Martin’s love story began where so many used to do, at work. Bonding over their shared love of watching sports, they started chatting and never stopped since then.. When Martin proposed, he kept things simple and heartfelt: at home, just the two of them. That intimate spirit carried through to their wedding day.

With about 35 guests, Lara and Martin proved that a smaller guest list doesn’t mean sacrificing elegance but amplifying it. Every invitation was intentional. Every moment could breathe. At a venue like Hotel Place d’Armes, that intimacy paired beautifully with old-world Montreal charm.

The best thing about planning a small wedding, you can have your dream venue and dream details without breaking the bank.
Hotel Place d’Armes sits in the heart of Old Montreal, steps from the Notre-Dame Basilica and surrounded by cobblestone streets and historic architecture. Inside, it’s all chic sophistication. Think exposed brick, soft natural light, and elegant small spaces perfect for intimate ceremonies and couple portraits.

When I arrived that Saturday afternoon, I scouted the venue for the best photo locations. The hotel didn’t disappoint: beautiful lighting in unexpected corners, classic architectural details, and even a small balcony in the restaurant that the staff graciously let us use for portraits.
Martin discovered the ceremony setup at the same time I did. Chic, classic, and exactly how they’d envisioned. Meanwhile, upstairs, Lara was finishing her final touches. A few candid getting-ready shots, two elevator rides, and suddenly we were watching their short and sweet bilingual ceremony unfold.

The ceremony was held inside the hotel, beautifully styled in a classic and refined aesthetic. One of the benefits of intimate weddings in Montreal is the freedom to create a space that feels like your own: elegant without excess, meaningful without distraction.

Their ceremony was short, emotional, and deeply sincere. Parents had tears in their eyes throughout. After signing their marriage documents, Lara and Martin shared a kiss and walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

We briefly returned to the arch so guests could capture their own photos. A simple but meaningful moment of celebration.

Here’s a tip from their day: assign a family wrangler for each side. Lara and Martin had quite a few family photo combinations to capture, but because they’d designated someone responsible for gathering each group and let guests know ahead of time they’d be in photos, everything flowed smoothly.
This small detail saved us precious time and kept the energy relaxed.
A Wedding at the hotel Place d’Armes is a photographer’s dream for indoor portraits. We moved through several intimate spaces with soft window light, warm ambient glow, textured walls and refined details everywhere. The balcony access was an unexpected bonus, offering a private moment.

For couples considering a winter or early spring wedding in Montreal, an indoor venue like this means you’re never at the mercy of the weather while still getting stunning, atmospheric photos.
When the couple session came to an end, Lara and Martin rejoined their guests for cocktails. This is where small weddings truly shine. You can actually talk to everyone. No rushed hellos, no feeling like you missed people. Just genuine connection with the people who matter most.

When they received their photos they follow my suggestion of taking their time and planning a date night, open a bottle of wine, play some music they love and then open the gallery to relieve their wedding. Here is what they had to say:

“We followed your recommendation and viewed the photos with a mix of our favourite soundtracks. The gallery turned out great! We really love how you arranged a storybook with the photos. They are really more than we could have wanted. Tout s’est déroulé comme prévu et même dépassé nos attentes.”

Melissa is an artist. Her photography will capture the intimacy and importance of your event. She really works with you to understand your vision for the photos. Not to mention, with her experience, she is on top of every detail and understands how to serve you best.
We had the grand pleasure of having her capture our bilingual (English/French) wedding. We requested wedding ceremony photos, family and couple photos and cocktail time photos. Pre-planning with her was a joy and she knew exactly how to put us at ease. Her guidance was invaluable and we really enjoyed working with her during our special day.
The final album she cultivated brought us back to the wedding and highlighted many precious moments we may have forgotten. Overall, if you are in doubt, selecting Melissa will be a great decision!”
